Hi and Welcome to the internet marketing tips blog.
My name is Mandy Buchanan (aka MandyB) and I have been marketing online since 1998 and currently have a number of my own websites, including:
http://social.ad-exchange.co.cc
http://www.affordable-web-design.co.cc
http://www.wedding-websites.co.cc
http://www.sm-marketing.co.cc
I have also promoted (and still promote) a number of affiliate programs and love Clickbank.
In this blog I hope to give you some useful content that will assist you in promoting your online businesses. At times I may also promote different products – whether you choose to use them or not is up to you and I do encourage you to look into these products yourself before purchasing them and don’t just go on my word.
For now, enjoy the blog and please subscribe. I won’t send millions of newsletters to clog up your inbox but it does help – especially if there is a special to offer you or something particular I need to tell you. I also encourage you to keep checking back regularly as I plan to update this blog every day Monday to Friday.

One of my favourite social media websites, and by the looks of things many other people’s too, is Facebook. When it comes to using Facebook for social media marketing you have a number of different options and today I am going to share five of these with you in a very basic form and then over the next few days we will look at these in more detail.
Your Facebook Profile Page
The first place advertising needs to start is with your profile page. This shouldn’t be hard sell but you should try to get as many friends as possible, share links to your websites, etc. The profile page is really the base of all other activity you will do on Facebook.
Facebook Pages
Another useful social media marketing tool on Facebook is Facebook Pages. This allows you to create a special page for your business or website and promote more heavily what you are doing in your business. It is also a good way to collect ‘Fans’ who are interested in your business but who may not necessarily add you as a friend.
Facebook Ads
We are going to look at these in more detail tomorrow but just to say that Facebook Ads are a pay per click marketing method that allows much better targeting than Google Adwords and is getting great results. You can choose to send people to your Facebook page or direct to your website. This is perhaps the only paid marketing method on Facebook but you get to set the budget and determine how much you are prepared to spend on each campaign.
Facebook Groups
Look out for groups that allow you to share links to create one of your own. The advantage of using other groups is that you already have a number of members whereas if you had to start your own group you would first need to build a membership base before your advertising would be of any benefit. The advantage of course is that you have more freedom in communicating with the group if it is your own group.
Create an Application
Applications are huge on Facebook – there are millions of them, some with hardly any users and others with thousands of users. If you can create an application that links your website in some way to Facebook and that interests users then this can be a great form of advertising. This application may be as simple as a gift giving application or as complex as some of the other games and applications available.
Facebook is a great place to market your online business because this is where thousands of people gather and you can use this to your advantage. Add friends, share links on your profile, create applications, pages and groups and have fun. If you need help using Facebook for marketing please visit our SM Marketing website.

Social media marketing is a relatively new concept in terms of internet marketing but one that is already showing how powerful it is and all internet marketers need to sit up and take notice.
Social Media Marketing and Search Engine Optimization
For a long time search engine optimization was considered critical (and it is still very important) but now there is mixed opinion about how important it is compared to social media optimization. To me there is no contest, this isn’t about who does better but it is about a partnership.
Social media marketing greatly benefits search engine optimization – it creates multiple listings for your business, creates back links to your web pages improving their search engine optimization plus search engines love social media sites because they are constantly changing so whether you believe search engine optimization is king or social media marketing is tops, use both!
Social Media Marketing Changes the Concept of Word of Mouth Advertising
Another marketing method that was considered extremely powerful in the past (particularly offline) is word of mouth advertising. It is this premise that network marketing businesses were founded on.
Today social media marketing takes the word of mouth concept to a whole new level. You can now not only share your opinion about various things with a few friends close to you but to the whole world and create relationships with hundreds of people relatively easily. The more people you can ‘befriend’ on websites such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc. the greater the reach of your advertising and the more likely you are to get results.
There must be many reasons why people choose to use social media marketing but for me these are two that are particularly powerful – search engine optimization and social reach. If you need help with social media marketing please check out my SM Marketing website – we will work to your budget and create a social media marketing plan that works for you.
